ABOUT THE PROGRAM
History
Bandırma Vocational School, Department of Accounting and Taxation was established in 1995 under Balıkesir University and has been continuing its educational activities under Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University since April 23, 2015. The Accounting and Tax Applications Program was opened under this department and has been educating students within Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University since 2015. The main aim of the program is to train qualified intermediate staff who possess professional knowledge in the fields of accounting, finance, and taxation and who can work in the accounting departments of businesses and in accounting offices.
For this purpose, students are provided with courses such as basic English, computer literacy, accounting software, as well as various courses related to accounting, finance and business administration.
The 3+1 Workplace Practice Model, which was introduced in the vocational schools of Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, has also been implemented in the Accounting and Tax Applications Program since the Fall Semester of the 2021–2022 Academic Year. According to this model, students take the courses in the curriculum during the first three semesters of their associate degree education, and in the final semester they take workplace practice courses and complete a 70–day internship in a workplace related to their field. With this model, students gain practical experience before graduating by applying their theoretical knowledge. The model also contributes to strengthening the cooperation between the program, the department, the university and various sectors such as industry and accounting offices. The Department of Accounting and Taxation aims to be an important and successful department in its field by contributing to the success of its university.
About the Program
The Accounting and Tax Applications Program is offered in daytime education. The courses included in the program are: Commercial Law, Mathematics, Introduction to Law, Information and Communication Technologies, Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms, Turkish Language, General Accounting, Cost Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Financial Management, Financial Statement Analysis, Turkish Tax System, Accounting Software Packages, and Organizational Behavior.
In addition, within the scope of the “Workplace Application and Training” courses taken in the third and/or fourth semesters at public or private sector workplaces where students will serve as qualified staff, the 3+1 Education Model is implemented. This model includes organizing activities that enable students to recognize their responsibilities in the workplace, employer-employee relations, organizational structures, production, occupational safety systems, and new technologies, as well as initiating and carrying out practical training. Graduates of the program can work in public institutions and the private sector. They can also work as intermediate staff in Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Sworn-in Certified Public Accountant offices. Associate degree graduates who complete a bachelor’s degree through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) and fulfill legal requirements can practice the accounting profession in their own offices.

The program attaches importance to improving the quality of education and training and to the continuous development of individuals and the institution. In order to achieve this, an institutional culture is being developed in which all stakeholders participate in or support the processes, sharing, transparency, high accountability, and commitment to ethical and social values are emphasized. Within this framework, the academic staff of the department will continue to contribute to the development of individuals today and in the future through national, international and interdisciplinary studies and various activities they organize.
Objective
The main objective of the program is to train qualified “Accounting Professionals” who have the equipment to meet the needs of the sector in the field of accounting and finance. The objectives of the Accounting and Tax Applications Program are to train professionals who:
- Follow professional developments in the field of accounting,
- Are capable of responding to changing workforce needs,
- Have professional knowledge and experience,
- Can use accounting software demanded by the sector.
Goals
The Accounting and Tax Applications Program has adopted as its main goal the education of individuals who research and follow developments in the field, are open to innovation, have a lifelong learning mentality, and can take responsibility. In addition, the program aims to:
- Increase students’ professional knowledge in accounting and finance,
- Improve students’ foreign language skills,
- Enable students to learn accounting software that is part of today’s technological developments and meets sectoral needs,
- Improve the quality of education provided to students,
- Ensure that students establish effective communication with all relevant stakeholders,
- Organize and increase social, cultural, and sportive activities for students.
Program Admission and Registration Requirements
The admission requirement for the Accounting and Tax Applications Program is to have a high school or equivalent diploma and to obtain a sufficient score from the relevant field in the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). In addition, students are also admitted through the Examination for Foreign Students (YÖS). Those who meet the previously specified requirements can transfer horizontally to the program according to quota. Information regarding the admission process and relevant dates is announced on the websites of the Vocational School and the Department, and this process is managed by the relevant units and academic advisors.
Employment Areas of Graduates and Vertical Transfer Opportunities
Students who complete the two-year education period of the Accounting and Tax Applications Program, which includes a compulsory 70–day internship, are entitled to receive an “Associate Degree Diploma” and obtain the title of accounting professional. In order to graduate, students must take all the courses included in the program and successfully complete courses corresponding to a total of 120 ECTS credits and have a minimum grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00.
Graduates can be employed in the accounting and finance departments of public institutions and private companies depending on the competencies they gained during their education. They can also work as assistant staff in the offices of Certified Public Accountants and Sworn-in Certified Public Accountants. In addition, graduates who successfully complete the Accounting and Tax Applications Program can continue their undergraduate education by transferring vertically to the following bachelor’s degree programs in line with the regulations of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK):

Location of the Unit and Accommodation Opportunities
The program is affiliated with the Department of Accounting and Taxation of Bandırma Vocational School, which is located in the Bandırma district of Balıkesir. Educational activities are carried out in the buildings of Bandırma Vocational School. Students can stay in private dormitories or apartments in Bandırma or in dormitories affiliated with the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK).
